Anna
Mae was sick in bed.
A cold was clogging up her head.
No school today,
no outside play
now, what was she to do?
She
blew her sniffly, snuffly nose,
put fuzzy slippers on her toes,
held her head,
slid out of bed,
and found some things to do.
With
colored blocks she made new words,
she wound up all her windup birds,
she stacked some cans
and banged some pans
now, what more could she do?
Oh,
Anna Mae, her mother said.
Please play quietly instead.
Choose other toys
that dont make noise.
So what did Anna do?
Anna
Mae got back in bed
and held her achy, stuffy head.
She thought awhile,
began to smile,
and knew just what to do!
First she needed paper wings,
her toy box, tape, a ball of string,
a telephone
to call back home
so many things to do!
She
drew a complicated map
and found a blanket for her lap,
a sturdy hat,
her favorite cat
just one more thing to do!
Anna
Mae sat up in bed,
forgot about her stuffy head.
She crouched down low
and said, Lets go!
(though she would be back soon).
She
counted down from ten to one,
said, Blast off! Well have lots of fun!
She held on tight
with all her might
and flew straight to the moon.
